0 hub controllers for which they load the default drivers included with OS X. It seems Apple forgot to include the NS850A in their list of USB 2. The hub has an chip (Vendor ID 0x0a05, Product ID 0x0001), which is fully compatible with the more popular Genesys Logic GL850A USB hub controller. The hub still works fine when connected to my MacBook that still has Mavericks installed.
I upgraded to El Capitan, and now my USB hub no longer works.
